Hair loss treatments and medical questions, for balding men & women

Why use the services of Hair Loss Rx Consult?

The Hair Loss Rx Consult service provides a diagnosis, hair loss treatment plan and advice for people experiencing androgenic alopecia, female and male pattern baldness or balding men and women. Our services are fast, convenient and easy to use.

What do your virtual care services look like? What can I expect?

Our virtual care services allow us to offer simple, fast, and accurate diagnoses to balding men and women. Virtual care allows patients to communicate via online messaging with medical experts, without having to travel or book off part of their day. The first step is to submit your request, by filling out the consultation form. During this step, you will have the opportunity to attach photos of your hair as well as elaborate on your medical history and relevant symptoms.

Upon receiving your request, a hair loss expert proceeds in the same manner as they would in person. They will examine your hair loss pictures and ask questions about your symptoms or medical history in order to make a diagnosis and determine the most appropriate therapy for your hair loss. You will receive your diagnosis and hair treatment plan directly on our platform, within the time frame of your plan.

Before the prescription is sent on to the compounding pharmacy, you will receive ample information on the hair loss treatment plan and the combination therapy that is most suited to your needs as a patient. You will have the opportunity to agree to the treatment plan and its associated cost; you can also ask any questions you might have to your clinician, through our secure messaging system.

Once you agree to your hair loss treatment plan, your prescription will be sent directly to a compounding pharmacy. A pharmacist will contact you to confirm your information and your selected solution will be delivered directly to your door, at no additional cost.

What type of health problems do you treat?

We work with certified clinicians who are hair loss specialists for all hair types and colors. Our hair clinic treat different types of hair loss such as androgenic alopecia, female and male pattern baldness, receding hairline, and thinning hair issues. Due to the limitations of teledermatology, we cannot treat:

  • Hair loss in patches (alopecia areata)
  • Rapid, sudden hair loss
  • Hair loss as a result of cancer treatment

An in-person consultation is recommended for these types of hair loss which fall outside the scope of our services.

Who can benefit from your services?

Our services are available to Canadian residents and we serve all provinces and territories except for Saskatchewan, Nunavut, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. We are currently working on serving all provinces in Canada and offering our services in other countries, like the United States. If you are interested in our services but live outside of our coverage area, click here to sign up for our newsletter. We will announce new coverage areas as they become available through our newsletter.

In which countries are our services available?

Our telehealth service is only available to residents of Canada. Residents of the United States can access combination therapies through our American partner Pharmacy Solution(https://rxcompound.com/hair-loss-medication/). We are currently working on expanding our service areas. Sign up to our newsletter to stay informed on future developments.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to receive a consultation?

Our hair loss consultation are available to everyone, even if you do not have a referral. You no longer need to search for a doctor or wait for an appointment.

Can I have an in-person consultation?

Unfortunately, we do not do in-person consultations or referrals. Our services are exclusively online via our telehealth platform. All communication between you and your hair loss specialist is done directly on our secured platform; therefore, we do not offer any other type of communication.

How do I get the remaining refills on my prescription?

To schedule your refills, you must call the compounding pharmacy to request a repeat prescription. The pharmacy’s phone number is 1-888-644-3673. We recommend that you always request a refill before you run out of treatments, since it is important to maintain a routine with this type of medication.

What do I do when I run out of refills for my prescription?

Before you run out of refills for your prescription, make sure to ask for a new consultation through our platform. A clinician will ask you to send new photos of the top, front, and sides of your head, to evaluate your hair regrowth process. If you are doing well on the treatment, they will most likely re-prescribe the same alopecia treatment plan.

What is a compounding pharmacy? Can you send my prescription to my local pharmacy/drugstore instead?

A compounding pharmacy formulates drugs that are customized to a patient’s unique needs and according to the specifications of the prescriber. However, not all pharmacies do compounding. We make sure that your prescription is sent to a Canadian compounding pharmacy that has all the ingredients on hand. Once you’ve accepted your hair loss treatment plan, an employee of the pharmacy will call you to confirm certain details and then send your prepared combination therapy directly to your home.

Where will I receive my combination therapy?

All hair treatments will be sent directly to your home with no additional shipping fees. At the stage of accepting your treatment plan, we will ask you for your home address in order to deliver your therapy. The pharmacist will then call you to confirm the delivery of your treatment plan.

What hair loss treatments do you provide?

We provide different hair loss combination therapies. Your clinician will ascertain which therapy is appropriate to your needs as a patient and will send you the relevant information concerning your treatment.

Can pregnant or nursing women use combination therapies?

Unfortunately, pregnant or breastfeeding women cannot use combination therapies as many of the therapies contain teratogenic medications. All treatments should be stopped during pregnancy and at any time after the absence of the first menstrual period. We advise you to always speak with a health care professional or one of our clinicians about your situation.

What should I do if I am currently using hair loss related products?

If you are using other products or medications than from our platform, we highly recommend that you mention this in the pre-consultation form. If needed, you can also mention this in the secured chat to your hair loss expert. This information is important for the clinician to provide you with an effective treatment plan. If needed, they will recommend ending certain treatments and avoid any contraindications with certain medications that you are currently using.

Can I use a Derma Roller while using a topical combination treatment?

Yes, the use of the microneedling system actually helps topical hair growth treatments penetrate more effectively into the scalp. The use of a Derma Roller has several benefits for blood circulation within the scalp and, in and of itself, also promotes growth. We recommend parting your hair and gently rolling the Derma Roller from front to back 3 times, on each of the targeted areas. Then, apply your topical treatment and finally disinfect your Derma Roller with alcohol & let it dry. If you would like to receive a Derma Roller, mention this to your pharmacist when he calls you; he will be able to send you one with your treatment.

How can I get the best results with my prescribed treatment?

Like for any medication, it is important to follow the directions on how to use the hair loss treatment you have been prescribed. When you receive your treatment plan, a document will be sent to you, with directions of use and other important information. Please note that all of our hair loss treatments are made to be used on a daily, recurring basis. To have and maintain the best results, do not interrupt the treatment.

Also, try to be patient with your results. The hair growth cycle happens over months which means that you will most likely only see results after 4-6 months of continuous use. We know that hair loss can be stressful and upsetting but give your treatment the best chance of working by following its directions of use.

What are the common side effects of the hair loss treatments you provide?

Topical therapies can have localized side effects that will be mentioned in your treatment plan by your clinician.

Can I start a consultation for someone else?

Yes, you can. Please make sure that you have their consent to do so and that they are 18 years of age or over.

How much does a consultation cost?

We have two types of plans that you can choose from. The first is the regular plan which allows you to receive a diagnosis and a treatment plan within 5 days for the price of $50. The second plan is the express plan which allows you to get a diagnosis and treatment plan within 3 days for the price of $60. Most private insurance companies cover the cost of our consultations.

Are online consultations covered by insurance policies?

Most private insurance plans cover online consultations. However, consultations are generally not covered by provincial health insurance plans. For the prescription itself, this depends on your specific insurance plan.

What is the price of a prescription?

The cost of your prescription will depend on the treatment plan your clinician has prescribed for you, to fulfill your needs as a patient. To give you an idea, the prices of our combination therapies cost less than 3$ per day delivered directly to your home. We also suggest that you check with your private insurance company to see if they cover this cost, if you have one.

What are your hours of operation?

The advantage of Hair Loss Rx Consult’s virtual services is that it is possible to fill out a consultation request at any time of the night or day, directly on your phone, computer, or tablet.
